Amen x Fashion Week

If you're somewhat of a regular on these blog inter-streets you will remember my short rant about the Joburg based fashion label named Amen the whole fashion week saga, vampires and uncool stuff. Well you will also remember the young bits about me being all over the rainbows about finally being able to see their show in JHB which was held in Rosebank at the National Military History Museum.
And my did the hunties deliver, as I am forever battling to be on time (code: In fashion you can never be too late) again for the Amen show I was a bit off the clock yet I arrived just in time to catch the music mix by an artist called Stilo Magolide who was the music conductor for the night.
The music suddenly took a different spin, most guests were seated by now those who weren't did so and everyone armed with their smartphone or camera honed them in time to capture every fashion moment for the Insta-webs. And with me, a child who had never been the sharpest tool in a box full of tomatoes I was obviously a tad bit late in prepping my camera.

A very familiar hoarse-ish voice filled the whole area, 'Party girls don't hurt. Can't feel anything, when will I learn'... but it had an unfamiliar arrangement which ensure that no one rolled their eyes in exclamation of simplicity and over-kill. The mood was set with a couple models in red velvet robes who stood like Roman guards awaiting the royal gang to arrive. The first section began with white pieces which had some sort of avant-garde glamour overridden by high sexuality brought by the high slits or dramatic cuts which ensured plenty of skin flashing. In progression the collection became ironically lighter in black which I must say was my favourite section of the whole collection especially one bomber-like jacket with a mesh back and of course who can forget that larger than life WIIIIIDE brim hat which could've easily been the show stopper but the duo had more in store for us.
It was quite admirable of the guys to be able to pull off such a big collection and an actual show with attendees in such a short time yet I would've personally advised to have less looks which would have in turn allowed them to focus on the overall styling and accessorizing of the whole collection besides that the show was amaze-balls.
Can I get an AMEN???

Jameson's SA Fashion Week Opening Party

Fashion week anywhere and everywhere in the world is nothing without several of parties from pre-parties to 104682 post-parties. Most people are convinced that fashion is basically a front for an excuse to party for 5 odd days none stop and while they can't be proven right they can't be disputed either. With SA Fashion Week it has become a tradition of the industry to begin each fashion week with an opening party hosted by one of the big sponsors Jameson's, this is the kind of party where all the who's who of the industry meet up and mingle with dainty foods which can be held between your pinkie and thumb and champagne.
This season I also found myself at the Jameson's Fashion Week opening party which was held at in Sandton at a venue called Katy's Palace.
Going there I already knew a number of people who I'd see, those I wanted to bump into and those who just exist (eye roll) along with those who I was pleasantly surprised to see.
If you had always been wondering if this party is as  awesome as most television shows make it seem I'd they do no justice, there's just no way of putting so much awesomeness in a 65 second insert.
Anyone who's an avid viewer of VEntertainment would know some of the usual suspects at such soirées (clears throat) Alan and Krishen.
I had no plans to be on dancefloor as I wanted to absorb and observe the atmosphere but hey Chianosky moves those hips like ocean waves so I couldn't object when she pulled me to hit the dancefloor with her.
For the night my dear friend Mandi Strimling was supposed to be my partner in crime but she couldn't make it so I invaded Jerri Mokgofe's cool kid crew.
There's always someone who's gonna look straight in the camera even when the shot is not about them.

Freckles still remain the IT thing.

Goerge, its no fashion soiree unless there's a redhead around.
Gladly I had a camera around though I did not take as many pictures as possible but I will let the few good ones I have do the talking.

G-Star Raw Store Opening

The front view of the store

A few weeks back I found myself at the ever amazing Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Umhlanga yet again for another uber cool event, this time it was for a store opening for G-Star Raw's men's only shop which of course was attended by some of the awesome people of Durban, from media personnel to fashion consumers who just love a good party.
On my arrival with the beautiful Kendra Hunsley of the blog Kotton and Silk we were greeted by some familiar media friends, the store's staff all dressed in G-Star Raw, a DJ at the small corner of the shop's rather minute place which begged the question was it really packed or was it just a matter of insufficient space but either way fun was had, selfies were taken.
The Happy Crew- Fay, Sandy, Kendra and Simone

What made this launch special was the theme of the collection which was being introduced, one which has been curated by singer Pharrell Williams, the main aim of this collection is to promote fashion with a conscience as all the garments in the store were created using recycled plastic from the ocean thus the hash tag 'raw for the oceans'. Though the price range might seem a bit high but it makes sense considering the work which goes behind creating garments of this nature. Oh and they had photo-booth/studio typa thing happening where all the cool kids got to wear a bomber-jacket from the G-Star Raw collection, get snapped and get a branded picture printed out immediately.
Oh hey he also smiles-Bwahaha
The handsome devil who ensured that we stay the whole night.

Overall the mingling and awesomeness sprinkling was good for a midweek unwinding though the clothes were nothing close to groundbreaking on a design aspect but I still respect the concept of responsible fashion.

Dior Resort '15

And I'm back again from my unplanned internet hiatus, to those who missed me sorry that you had to and to those who were hoping I never come back; stay mad honey child.
So last week we had our good dose of a fashion fix first the Oscars of fashion which is the annual Met Gala then soon after that we had the Dior Resort '15 show
Well I am quite sure that no one here has time for me rambling about the Met Gala after a week and besides I did enough of that on Twitter. So I thought I might share some of my favorites from the Dior runway which was a feast of colours and clothing artistry.
The high waist skirts with a fold at the top were one of the items I'd totally rock if I had been a girl.
Overall for me this collection was pretty and taught me that there are more ways to wear scarves than one.

Rihanna to be awarded with the CFDA Fashion Icon Award

Pop Star Rihanna has become quite synonymous with the word "icon" last year she was awarded with the first ever Icon Award at the American Music Awards. Again this year she will be receiving a similar award for her undeniable impact in the fashion industry. “We are proud to present Rihanna with the CFDA(Council of Fashion Designers of America) Fashion Icon Award for her impact on the industry as fashion’s most exciting ambassador in recent memory,”CFDA CEO Steven Kolb said in the announcement.

Rihanna joins the likes of Lady Gaga, Kate Moss and Iman as the recipient of the CFDA Fashion Icon Award. In the past few years Rihanna has been able to change her style effortlessly like no one else in the world. Her impact on the fashion industry has been apparent for some time now, she has collaborated with high end fashion houses like Chanel for an ad campaign, Armani for a collection, River Island for two limited edition collections and most recently she is currently the face of the French fashion house Balmain. At this year's Paris Fashion Week she served up a storm of fashion with her risque and rather daring outfits from bra-less sheer tops to lingerie inspired looks during daytime she has proven that she can wear anything from street wear to haute couture and still look fierce.

Stylish Chats with C.C Marques

So I had a little chat with a friend of mine who's also a blogger and a man of great style. C.C Marques is a young man from Portugal who runs the blog, You Can Call Me Hitch. Between being an architect by profession he also finds time to always take the most stunning OOTD pictures (Outfit Of The Day). With his forever on point style accompanied with the most current trends in menswear his blog is pretty much a place everyone needs to visit. Here's a bit more information about the Marques straight from the man himself.

What should one expect when they are to meet you?
Well, this one is tricky. Maybe someone nice? (laughs). Seriously now, I´m just your average architect with a passion for monochromatic fashion.

What's your favourite fashion house? And more to that why?
I´ll have to choose Saint Laurent Paris. I´ve been a fan of Hedi Slimane since Dior Homme and I love almost everything he does. You can´t go wrong with a SLP bomber or a leather perfecto.

In contrast to that, do you have a least favourite fashion house?
I don´t. Every brand is unique and I don´t think it´s possible to not have at least an item that you can enjoy. ´But that´s just me tho´.

Do you have a specific style icon that you look up to? If so, who is that?
Don´t we all? Mine is Mr. W. (Nickelson Wooster)

Rihanna x Paris Fashion Week Style Diary

With Paris Fashion Week underway, so far it hasn't been all about the catwalk and the Fall/Winter collections. Rihanna who has been described as fashion's most exciting new muse by Vogue magazine for her 3rd Vogue cover on the March Issue. The pop star has taken Paris Fashion Week by storm from nipple bearing to wearing outfits from menswear collections it is without doubt that the singer is the front row 'It Girl' this season.
The What Now singer made her first PFW appearance at the Balmain show as she is the current face of the French fashion house after all. For the show, she wore an olive green ensemble from Balmain which was very similar to the first section of the collection from the show.

After the Balmain show she attended the Lanvin show where she opted for not only a different outfit for yet another wig very similar to the first one but much shorter on the sides. She was looking rather weather appropriate in an all grey outfit finished off with some fur to add texture and a taste of glamour.

The following day she stole all the paparazzi attention in her sexy French maid look when she was attending the Dior show. The look wasn't very much appropriate for a day time event but then again this is BadGalRiRi we're talking about. Who needs rules when everything you wear just works impeccably? Again in this look fur made a huge statement, her red fur jacket from Dior kept the sexy singer warm in the cold Paris weather.

On Saturday our favorite bad girl attended not one but two shows once again. First it was the Comme Des Garcons show where she balanced sexiness and quirky with her head gear which had bunny ears but that was only a small accessory for the outfit, she wore a leather overcoat paired with a white fur stole which had the word 'Fear' written on it.

Then later she made her way to the Jean Paul Gaultier show in black pants, a sheer lace top (again without a bra) and a fur scarf strategically placed to cover her breast even though she did serve some side boob still. It was quite apparent by now that monochrome was the theme for the day with the singer as she even went and wore black lipstick and black leather gloves.

Sunday night she attended the Givenchy show. She looked all retro in her 80's inspired look. She added some street edge with a cap worn backside and a black veil tightly worn on her face. With this look she fell on the 'who wore it best' category as actress Noomi Rapace also wore the same outfit for the very same show, with the very same lip color. The only difference was the manner of how the outfit was styled with each lady. Noomi Rapace chose to make it a bit more feminine with a sleek hairstyle and pumps while RiRi kept it androgynous with white sneakers.

Again today she attended another show, this time was the Stella McCartney show dressed in a green hooded coat with paired with boots and accessorized with big cat eye sunglasses which were more for the fashion statement rather than for the weather. It is quite easy to say she looked flawless.

And that has been the week so far. Will she attend more shows and wear more daring and fierce outfits? Well only time will tell, we still have two more days of PFW after all.
From the seven looks of the week which one has been your favorite?
