World Jam Music Festival Gets Postponed

The organizers of the World Jam Music Festival, in consultation with the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs have, after total evaluation, taken a responsible decision to postpone the event until a suitable date in 2015.

Whilst the entire event is planned, approved and ready to go, the event organizers and province understand that a tough economic year and sudden, massive event congestion, has placed severe burden on the ticket buying public, who have not been able to give the support required through ticket sales.

Out of consideration and respect for the performance and attendance requirements of the artists and our suppliers’ commitments, it was decided it would be in the best interest of all involved to reschedule the festival. In this way Durban and the people of KwaZulu-Natal will have more of a chance to embrace and take ownership of our own product.

To date, a comprehensive communication campaign has ensured media advertising, positive publicity, support, and belief in the event from the media. Many of the local and international artists have shown their support through media interviews and excitement on their part. Those who are available for the new dates will continue with the festival.

The event organizers, Province and valued suppliers all remain supportive of the decision and committed to the event, and will work together towards the new date. Ticket holders may claim a refund from Computicket, until the next date is published.

SECURITY AT GATEWAY THEATRE OF SHOPPING DURING THE FESTIVE SEASON
During the festive season our main priority is safeguarding our shoppers and tenants. Additional security personnel have been allocated to enhance security during this time.
We’re continuously working with the local police services to ensure that the correct measures are in place in the event of an emergency.
In addition to this, our retailers who have their own security arrangements within their own premises, operate their own surveillance cameras in their areas.
All our security technologies are checked constantly and all efforts are made to increase tenant and shopper awareness around this period as well.
We advise our shoppers to always be vigilant and careful with their personal belongings – either in their vehicles or on their person.

Shoppers should not leave any valuables in their vehicles and should physically check that their vehicles are locked when using a remote locking device.

SOUTH AFRICA’S SUPER-RICH ATTEMPT TO BREAK A WORLD RECORD FOR CHARITY

International Bank Vaults (IBV) in partnership with Gateway Theatre of Shopping will be hosting the IBV Supercar Club Charity Parade on Sunday 21 September 2014. This historic event will give 200 orphaned and underprivileged children the opportunity to be driven in a Supercar and enjoy a day of fun and adventure. The Supercar parade will start at the Pavilion Hotel and end at Palm Boulevard Umhlanga (Gateway). The IBV Supercar Charity Parade will be a World first and is validated by the Guinness World Book of Records.
IBV Supercar Club is committed to making a discernible impact by driving a Guinness World Record supercar parade event in Durban on 21 September 2014. The Supercar Club aims to break a Guinness World Record by raising R1 million through a charity parade of 200 supercars down North Beach. Each supercar owner will be accompanied by an orphaned child who will be gifted a lifetime escapade.
“We are calling all supercar owners to join us at 8am at the Pavillion Hotel for this ground-breaking event by donating their time and a gift of a ride in their supercar to an orphaned child” invites Marc Rosseau, Manager of IBV Supercar Club.
Gateway Theatre of Shopping is very proud to be associated with the IBV Supercar Parade. “Corporate Social Investment is very important to us. We fully support IBV’s vision to host 200 orphaned and underprivileged children. As corporates, it is our responsibility to stabilize the social and economic environment and we will continue to make an effort to improve the living conditions of the communities in which we operate,” Akash Maharaj, Centre Manager at Gateway Theatre of Shopping.

There is a gauge of about 3.7 million orphans in South Africa. About 150 000 children are deduced to be living in child-headed households. There is nothing more excruciating for a child than to lose a parent, not to mention losing access to social grants, education and healthcare. Added to this vicissitude is the loss of adult guidance and protection. Children without apt adult care are more likely to be abused and exploited. Many orphans and impuissant children slip further into poverty once the family’s main breadwinner dies.
All money raised from the event will benefit Children’s VIP Day, The Sunflower Fund, UNICEF and Child Welfare South Africa. Donations will be audited by Guinness World Records & proceeds by Ernst & Young.
The parade will be escorted by Harley Davidson & Ducati Bikers, and led by a helicopter formation and special police escort.

For more information please contact Marc Rosseau on 073 852 5340 or visit www.ibvsuperclub.com

Durban Fashion Fair 2014

Glitz and glamour, fashionistas, international fashion designers, together with South Africa’s established and emerging designers, African models, stylists, make-up artists and the whos who of the fashion industry will get together when eThekwini Municipality hosts the 3rd annual Durban Fashion Fair (DFF) taking place at the Durban ICC from the 21 - 24 August 2014.
The DFF is one of the most successful fashion programmes in the country which integrates fashion development, together with exhibitions, 16 fashion shows and continues to capacitate, empower, encourage the culture of entrepreneurship as well as facilitate access to markets and networking opportunities for established and local young designers.

Since the inception of the DFF, the City of Durban has sent a group of designers on an internship programme in Milan – the fashion capital of the world - and has produced over 100 successful young designers who continue to make an impressive mark in the fashion industry. The programme has produced a number of success stories, like uKujula, a self-taught designer who has built a reputable brand and now owns his own multiple fashion outlets. Another successful product of this programme Zama Mathe aka ZARTH – has made a remarkable mark in the fashion industry and enjoys the support of many leading personalities in the country.
“The fashion industry is one of the major contributors to South Africas Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and it continues to face challenges that require collective collaboration to make it a success. It is in the Citys interest to make this industry successful and sustainable. The City has invested over R 10 million into the fashion development initiatives and programmes that include business management training, fashion shows, mentorship and international fashion internship. It is the Citys role to provide a conducive and an enabling environment for our designers whilst through Durban Fashion Fair, we continue to provide opportunities to access markets, including exploring physical and online shopping platforms.” said Mayor Councillor James Nxumalo.

The DFF programme has a number of initiatives that focus on developing a sustainable fashion industry in the City. Sixteen (16) models that have been casted around the City will walk the DFF runway for the first time as they represent new faces of the DFF 2014. This is one of the notable contributions that the Fair aims to promote in order to educate our community about fashion and its impact. This is complemented by activations at various shopping malls around the City.
“Our young designers have now been exposed to different levels of the value chain within the fashion and textile industry. It is in our interest to ensure that young designers get adequate exposure, training and development so that we can build a sustainable fashion industry. Our programme has ensured that emerging designers gain invaluable exposure to global fashion trends through workshops, attend international fashion shows and visit various fashion studios,” said Sindi Shangase, DFF Programme Manager within the Business Support, Tourism and Market Unit.
