Alicia Keys x Givenchy Fragrance

Givenchy's latest ad campaign for the fashion house's new fragrance Dahlia Divin is here and guess who's the celebrity face for the scent? The Girl whose on fire, Alicia Keys. Keys' skin is flawless and is complemented well by the strapless gown on the editorial. This ad campaign basically continues to show Riccardo Tisci's love for women of colour after his Spring/Summer ad campaign starring songstress Erykah Badu.
We've also heard by the grapevine that Kendell Jenner will be starring in a number of campaigns by the French fashion house.
The fragance is said to hit the shelves in September, so after having to wait about a month for the campaign editorials to be released since Alicia Keys had tweeted about her excitement to be part of the Givenchy family back in May, we still going to have to wait another few months to actually know the scent itself.

Oscar award winning actress Lupita Nyong'o is officially 2014's "It girl". After months of crossed fingers and speculations, Lupita has finally gotten a "stamp of approval" as not only a force to reckon with but a fashion icon too. The actress got people talking about a possible Vogue cover after the Calvin Klein F/W '14 Show in February where she was spotted on the front row right next to Anna Wintour. She will be gracing the cover of the glossy magazine next month(July), the cover was released online today (19 June 2014) in which she's wearing a Prada dress from the Fall 2014 collection.

With her ability to always come out as best dressed on most red carpet events she attends, we can all agree that we knew that this cover was gonna happen sooner or later and it was soon.
The editorials were taken in the beautiful city of Marrakech where she appears in a number of top designer ensembles from Proenza Schouler to Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci. Lupita looks absolutely flawless on literally every picture.
One can only wonder what else is to come from the Kenyan born beauty but one thing we know for sure is that she's only getting bigger from here.

Fashioning Smokes

From eras past it has been through photography that we see the coolest things to do at a given time. Growing up we are taught many things from general etiquettes to good morals but somehow it is inevitable for us to be influenced by pop culture. And so comes the habits which momma would frown upon, habits like smoking. When it comes to photography, smoking cigarettes has always been a thing which looks uber cool, from the black and white eras with icons like Marilyn Monroe to the 90s with grunge pioneer couple Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love to this very day pictures of a smoking person are still filed under cool.

With picture filters from Photoshop to Instagram filters people are able to enhance their pictures of their daily life but when it comes to smoking pictures greyscale still remains popular take a look at some of Rihanna's pictures.
Point is with my love for street fashion I looked through some of the pictures I took a few weeks ago while I was out and spotted these shots of Sthe Masinga a photographer, taking a quick break from his work with a smoke and a camera hanging while I might sound cliché but I thought I should share these rad random shots I took.

Dior Resort '15

And I'm back again from my unplanned internet hiatus, to those who missed me sorry that you had to and to those who were hoping I never come back; stay mad honey child.
So last week we had our good dose of a fashion fix first the Oscars of fashion which is the annual Met Gala then soon after that we had the Dior Resort '15 show
Well I am quite sure that no one here has time for me rambling about the Met Gala after a week and besides I did enough of that on Twitter. So I thought I might share some of my favorites from the Dior runway which was a feast of colours and clothing artistry.
The high waist skirts with a fold at the top were one of the items I'd totally rock if I had been a girl.
Overall for me this collection was pretty and taught me that there are more ways to wear scarves than one.

Bloggers Go Wild x 1st Zulu Safaris Tour

As bloggers we always meet when attending events like launches and press conferences but we hardly have fun together cause well usually we just meet for an hour or two then part ways.
1st Zulu Safaris in collaboration with SABloggers chose to give us an experience of a lifetime in the wild with a day tour of KZN's best nature sites.

So this was the deal: take 6 Durban bloggers namely, Selloane Moeti of All Beside Us, Nothando Tembe Head over Heels, Faeema Sader of The Sparkling Labyrinth, Lelo Meslani of Purple Neptune World, Thanda of Besides Us (who couldn't make it shame, your loss brother man). Add two readers of SABloggers through winning a competition, and well the eccentric founder of SABloggers Sandy Nene you get a whole day of craziness literally stringed by laughter and chats about anything and everything.
Travelling with the tour operator Christo Spetsiotis who seemed to be just as happy to be going on this tour (talk about loving your job hey).

This tour was not just fun it was quite educational and also created memories which are to be kept forever. We started off at the Lion Park, where we met Simba's (of the Lion King) relatives just when they started chasing our car we dashed off to see elephants in all their humongous glory until they all wanted to touch us at the same time (I guess big buddies forgot how big they're for a moment).
Somehow most of these kids had a secret memo going on about how they all were going to wear animal prints (I know right, so predictable)
Speaking of prints, you ever wondered why some people love animal prints so much? Well its because they're one of the most beautiful and breathtaking prints in nature. From Zebra's to Giraffes and snakes, mother nature gave them thee best prints.
While I'm still on about snakes, I know I should be the last one teasing people who are freaked out by the little slitherins but I have to say Selloane takes her own title here.
Okay, it seems I'm already spilling too much tea let me allow the pictures do the rest of the talking.

If you also want to go on a tour with 1st Zulu Safaris go to their websites for prices and Christo said he's working on new packages which will cost just under a thousand rand for tours which usually cost more than 2K.

Kurt Cobain: A Tortured Icon x 20th Anniversary

Icon! deemed "a tortured soul"

In the previous year when I first started blogging I made it very clear how much of a grunger I am and this wasn't a totally conscious choice for me, I guess that's usually the whole point after all no one chooses to be a misfit in society. I know in fashion (last season) the whole 90's grunge era became a huge inspiration for countless fashion houses and now everyone is suddenly a self-proclaimed 'grunge girl/boy' even those who have a chimpanzee's understanding when it comes to grunge. (side note I'm no expert either but...) Well that's a subject for another day as today is only about the man who has been mainly credited for the grunge era, Kurt Cobain. Kurt Cobain died at age 27, twenty years ago on the 5th of April in his home, his body was only found on the 8th of April (which makes this article almost relevant).

Like most people who loved and still do love Nirvana and it's iconic leading man Cobain this day is used as a reflection of Cobain's influence in the world. Kurt Cobain or better yet his band Nirvana is somewhat one of the most iconic bands of all time.
In his suicide note Kurt spoke about how much he never felt as if he gave enough to his fans, how he felt he didn't allow the love from thousands of fans consume him and enjoy the feeling.
For sometime I always felt quite sad about the fact that Kurt had chosen to take his life at such a tender age and at the very prime of his fame. It is this year on the 20th anniversary of his death I have fully understood that Mr Cobain had done it all, he had reached his destiny, with just 3 albums his band had reached the kind of fame which takes decades to acquire, he had not only changed the face of rock music but popular culture as a whole. Kids who were misfits, who hardly cared about what society had to say about their look felt normal and part of society (actually society tried emulating them) because of Kurt Cobain
His life story has inspired a lot of people in different genres of music, he has been quoted and mentioned in a number of songs. From the perspective of the fashion industry he provided what might be said to be the last NEW era, all that came after the 90's was partly a reflection of the past infused with whatever is happening in pop culture at that particular time.
One of Vogue Italia's most famous grunge editorial

Kurt's Legacy: Grunge still a major influence in the fashion industry and pop culture

He had done his part and pop culture's history is proof to that. By this I do not mean we should no longer mourn his death or honor his legacy but let us be happy that he was brave enough to do what he felt was right not only for himself but for his wife, daughter and adoring fans.

"Its better to burn out than to fade away"
